Note to self: You already belong

010

It took me a while to get here but I think I finally understand… some people just aren’t bangin’ with you. You’re just not chillin’ on the same wavelength and that’s okay.

You’re not meant to.

I find it funny how making the “smart” decision is most often equated with making the cautious decision.

How to get yourself out of an unwelcome slump

tumblr_o86pn4p3tc1s48wp6o1_500

I’m doing this new thing when I’m feeling in a slump where I ask myself “what would I want my boyfriend or BFF to do for me?” then whatever the answer is – I do it for my damn self.

Think and Speak Clean

tumblr_mlthkxut121snx0ggo1_400

I’ve started becoming borderline obsessed with detoxing and cleansing. I’ve long been a fan of holistic health (thanks to my mom) but I have recently happened upon the idea that I can cure my pesky adult acne by making some dietary changes and lifestyle changes.

While altering my diet for one week straight and being THAT person at brunch who doesn’t drink the mimosas and asks the waiter if they have whole wheat bread, I started to think of the other beneficial kind of detox. Not the one that benefits our physical being, but the one that benefits our minds and mental well-being.

Harder to Love

“It feels like work because it’s going to be work. If you and I move forward together it’s – It’s harder to love somebody than to walk away from them.
And this is messy and scary and – God! It scares the life out of me.”

You Are Not an Accident

self shame

I was sitting in my room one morning when this phrase came to me in a fit of inspiration. I was feeling down on myself about things I could be doing better, ways that I wasn’t living up to what other people wanted from me. How I wasn’t this enough or that enough. How I wasn’t successful enough after an expensive college education and doing everything that we are told to do in order to be successful.

Time, Energy, and Hands

tumblr_li08fhbkjy1qfwprxo1_500

It’s Friday afternoon and there have been dirty dishes in the sink in all week long. These dirty dishes have taunted me as I ran in and out of the house all week. In from work, out for small group. In from work, out for a movie premier. In from work, out to a fictional world (via the pages of a book) while tucked in bed with a cup of tea. I just haven’t been able to shake these dishes in the sink.

“People get scared when you try to do something, especially when it looks like you’re succeeding. People do not get scared when you’re failing. It calms them.
… but when you’re winning it makes them feel like they’re losing, or worse yet, that maybe they should’ve tried to something too but now it’s too late. And since they didn’t, they want to stop you.
You can’t let them.”
– Mindy Kaling, Why Not Me?

Let it Out (and use your words)

distracted glitter rain

Despite the current obsession with reality star cat fights, champagne tosses, and baby mama drama (or baby daddy drama), the majority of us who reside in the actual real world, don’t seem to like confrontation so much. I’d go so far as to say that us millennials especially don’t like confrontation.
