The Practice

Processed with VSCO with t1 preset

Growing up, I’ve always felt like I had to change for the people in my life – myself included – to become more this or more that in order to fit in and just feel like I belonged somewhere. From family to friends, I rarely felt good enough as is.

I’m not sure if this is something that everyone experiences while growing up or if I subconsciously sought it out and manifested it into my life, but I was stuck in a loop of always trying to please everyone else. In the process of rearranging yourself to other people’s needs, it’s easy to lose sight of yourself.

Freeing yourself from unresolved feelings

tumblr_mz904ekktx1qc9bp9o1_1280

It’s not uncommon to be walking around and engaging in everyday life with various unresolved feelings lying dormant. We have experiences that affect us in different ways and when left unaddressed, they set up tent and make a nice little home in our subconscious; just waiting for a chance – a similar situation or a quiet moment – to remind us of their existence.

On Overcoming Comparison

behind-the-curtain

“Managing everyone’s expectations is exhausting.”

This sentiment came to me at a random point yesterday while in my room. I can’t even pinpoint what happened that led to this thought but I guess it’s just a thought that tends to linger silently in the background. Like when the air conditioner is on but you don’t notice that it was making a sound until it turns off.

Hello 24 – Flexibility, Rock bottom, and welcoming the new

tumblr_ndi1cexmmt1rs8w78o1_500

Change comes whether you’re ready for it or not.

I feel like life has been repeatedly giving me lessons in change and flexibility. Both recently and just throughout my life in general. For some reason life wants me to get comfortable with the idea that I don’t have ownership or control over everything despite my desire to.

“If I’m not the one for you, you gotta stop holding me the way you do.”
– Adele, Water under the bridge

Love is an amazing thing. It’s said to have the ability to change our brain chemistry. We get hooked on love like a drug addict and latch on to our lover for dear life. Like we need them more than food, water, and air. They become our source of happiness and meaning.

Note to self: You already belong

010

It took me a while to get here but I think I finally understand… some people just aren’t bangin’ with you. You’re just not chillin’ on the same wavelength and that’s okay.

You’re not meant to.

The benefit of stupid decisions

I find it funny how making the “smart” decision is most often equated with making the cautious decision.

How Long Will You Grieve?

tumblr_n4k9mkghiv1r4nn7qo2_400

We’ve all come face to face with grief at one point or another in our lives. Whether we grieved over the end of a relationship, the loss of a friend or family member, the loss of anything of importance to us, a disappointment, or a failure.

The truth about that greener grass

tumblr_ntd8ehdygl1qapuajo1_500

Spoiler Alert if you haven’t seen the latest installment of the Divergent movie series, Allegiant (or read the books). I got a bit of inspiration from it when I saw it for Cheap Ticket Tuesday yesterday with my sis and cousin. I got to see a movie in theaters for $6.71! My mother did not delay in reminding me of a grand ol’ time when that was the standard price for movies, but I digress.
