A little over a year ago, I wrote a blog post reflecting on my 23rd year of life as it came to a close and I turned 24. I shared the struggles that I encountered around my 23rd birthday a year ago along with the activities, organizations, and people that helped to re-center me after a rough emotional time. Growing up, I’ve always felt like I had to change for the people in my life – myself included – to become more this or more that in order to fit in and just feel like I belonged somewhere. From family to friends, I rarely felt good enough as is.

I’m not sure if this is something that everyone experiences while growing up or if I subconsciously sought it out and manifested it into my life, but I was stuck in a loop of always trying to please everyone else. In the process of rearranging yourself to other people’s needs, it’s easy to lose sight of yourself.

Freeing yourself from unresolved feelings

It’s not uncommon to be walking around and engaging in everyday life with various unresolved feelings lying dormant. We have experiences that affect us in different ways and when left unaddressed, they set up tent and make a nice little home in our subconscious; just waiting for a chance – a similar situation or a quiet moment – to remind us of their existence.

I can’t even pinpoint what happened that led to this thought but I guess it’s just a thought that tends to linger silently in the background.
